In our comfortable and supportive atmosphere, we offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each of our client’s individual needs.
COUNSELING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY
Counseling works to solve current problems and change unhelpful thinking and behavior. We are “problem focused” (undertaken for specific problems) and “action oriented” (therapist tries to assist the client in selecting specific strategies to help address those problems), and can be directive in its therapeutic approach. Counseling will be tailored to fit the unique needs and situation of each client. Each of our counselors has extensive experience working in a variety of settings and have an enormous amount of skill in helping adults, families, children and adolescents find the solutions they need. Psychotherapy can be helpful in treating a variety of problems such as – PTSD, ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Autism, Protracted Grief, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Family Problems, Learning Disabilities, and many more concerns.
EYE-MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING
EMDR is a progressive therapeutic technique used to help resolve stress, anxiety, and traumas from minor to complex issues, happening either as a child or an adult. Starting in 2004 the Practice Guidelines of the American Psychiatric Association, the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense, the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, and the World Health Organization all recommend the use of EMDR for the treatment of trauma. The goal of EMDR is to decrease the long-lasting effects of distressing thoughts by engaging the brain’s natural adaptive information processing mechanisms, thereby reducing present symptoms. EMDR can accelerate therapy by resolving the impact of your past injuries and allowing you to live more fully in the present.
We provide extensive psychoeducational assessments for individuals ages 8+. These comprehensive evaluations often meet the documentation guidelines for most schools and major universities.
Psychoeducational testing is often necessary to accurately diagnose and define the particular challenges a person is facing. Tests are often requested by pediatricians before prescribing medication for ADHD. Our testing can provide a better understanding of strengths and weaknesses, and an accurate diagnosis, helping to inform appropriate educational placements, programming, interventions, and accommodations. Psychiatrists and family physicians often seek to test to assist in diagnostic clarification and treatment planning. While many assessment tools just try to answer the question,”Is there a problem or what is my diagnosis?” We want to understand all about you or your child, both the strengths and the areas for growth. We can help you understand what the struggle is, and then we can help with an extensive plan for enhancing your child’s strengths and managing their areas for growth so that they can be on a path to success for life.
